History & Geography │Intro to American History - Year 2 of 2
Complete the epic adventure you started in BookShark's Level D Intro to American History, Year 1 of 2 and experience America's history from the 1850s on. Get to know heroes like Abraham Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt and the Wright brothers.
Find out how Americans' unique perspective--our egalitarianism, our desire for change, and our "can-do" spirit--contributed to inventions such as ready-to-wear clothing, department stores and skyscrapers. Discover why time zones and "fast food" came into existence. Examine how mass immigration, women's suffrage, the labor movement and the Great Depression impacted the social, political, and economic climate of the country. Discuss how racism has influenced life for individuals and the entire nation throughout the years.
The OPTIONAL American History II - Lap Book Kit can be added to this package under the Customize Tab above and is scheduled in the Instructor's Guide for your convenience.
Enjoy 12 Read-Aloud classics like Gone Away Lake and Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry.
Give your children a deeper understanding of history (and love of reading) through the thoroughly gripping Readers they read on their own. Your kids will meet inspiring characters such as Helen Keller, Harriet Tubman and Thomas Edison.
This complete Language Arts program with daily lesson plans helps your children develop excellent written communication skills.
The following OPTIONAL supplement Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4 & Teacher's Key is scheduled in the guide for your convenience but not required. (Not included in the All-Subject Package but can be added using the Customize Tab.)
We also recommend your students use Grammar Ace between levels E thru H. Designed to be all the grammar they will need, students can set their own pace and complete the lessons in 6 months or 2 years. We schedule one lesson per week in the Language Arts E Guide.
Spelling You See takes the approach that students spell correctly when words are imprinted on the visual memory. The design of the program allows students to develop spelling skills naturally, at their own pace, with the direction and encouragement of the instructor.
See the General Spelling Readiness Guidelines for more information on placing your student in the correct level.
This engaging, new Science course combines BookShark’s signature, literature-based approach with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Through captivating literature and experiments, our highly academic program utilizes NGSS crosscutting concepts to unify the study of science and engineering through common application.
Science E students will learn about energy; earth’s systems, including rock formations, tectonic plates, and natural hazards; the properties of waves; and physical characteristics of living things.
The literature includes three captivating Usborne resource books, starting with the Usborne Illustrated Elementary Science Dictionary, a student friendly dictionary that explains nearly every concept of basic science. The other two resource books focus on the abilities certain animals develop to survive and an in-depth look at planet earth. Students will also read illustrated books about waves and energy, an interactive workbook that directly teaches computer coding, and a biography about a famous Hollywood inventor.
Experiments range from: simulating animal nerve connections with an electrical current, building a methane gas collection system, creating an electromagnet, and many more!

Is BookShark a History or a Reading program?
BookShark is both! We are a literature based program that teaches History through reading and listening. At Level A-C, the focus of our program is on developing and strengthening reading ability. This is why we offer multiple Reader levels for the early packages. Beginning in Level D, however, the focus shifts from strengthening reading ability to building reading comprehension. From Level D up, we integrate the Reading, Read-Alouds, and Language Arts assignments with the History readings. Instead of learning to read, your children will be reading to learn!
Can I use this package if I didn’t do Part 1?
BookShark’s Level E All-Subject Package introduces the second half of American history beginning with the 1850’s and ending in the modern era. The first half of the program – Level D Intro to American History, part 1 of 2 – is not required for you to use our Level E curriculum, though it does help provide some context. It is up to you if you want to skip it or step back.
If you have any concerns about missing content or the difficulty of the Level E work, please consider starting with Level D. Our Level D package was designed for students age 8-11. If you decide to skip the Level D program, your student(s) will have another chance to cover American history in our Level I History & Literature Package.
Do the Readers integrate with the History reading?
Yes, they do! For Level D and up, all of our Readers were chosen because of how well they represent the topics and times you'll be studying in History readings. The Readers in this package also integrate with Language Arts assignments. This approach gives your student an opportunity to soak up subject matter in three different ways: by listening, by writing, and (of course) by reading!
Can I use this package for both of my children?
Yes, you can use the All-Subject Package with two or more students!
If your children are within three years of age, we recommend that you put them in the same BookShark All-Subject Package. Your children will be able to share most of the resources in the package, including Read-Alouds, Science, and History books. They can also share the Timeline Book and Timeline Figures, but you will need duplicates of some of the worksheets. You may also need additional Math resources. Please look at the “Consumables” tab to see a full list of the consumable materials in this package.
Please remember that Reading & Language Arts and Math are skill based subjects. Even though your students are in the same age range, they may not have the same skill levels. Use the assessments on our Resources page to help you pick the correct Reading and Math option for each of your children.
Once you know the correct Reader and Math levels, customize the All-Subject package to fit one of your student’s needs. Then, supplement the package with an additional Reading & Language Arts and a Math program that fits your other students.
Not sure if this is the right fit? Please review the options below to find a package that will work for both of your children:
If there is more than a three year age difference between your children, we recommend that you purchase a separate package for each student.
Can my students share the Science Supplies Kit?
Yes! If your students are willing to work together as lab partners, they can share the resources in the Science Supplies Kit D. You may want a second kit if you prefer that each student perform every experiment, or if you have more than two scientists sharing the Science package.
Which Math program/level will be best for my child?
Math, like reading, is a skill-based subject. It is important to pick a program and a level that fits with your child’s learning style and ability. Please take a look at our Resources page for a comparison of our different math options. We also have placement tests to help you figure out the appropriate starting point for your child.
Can I purchase the package without Math?
Our All-Subject Packages are built to include everything you need for your school year: History, Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Math. We love our packages so much that we discount them 20% off retail price. You can purchase the elements of the All-Subject Package without purchasing math, but you will not receive our 20% off package discount.
If you are certain none of our math options will work for you, please add the following products to your cart individually:
Do you have Handwriting for Level 4?
Handwriting is not included in our Level E All-Subject Package, but we do have a Handwriting package for Level E! Please follow this link to add Handwriting Without Tears 4 to your cart.
Do I need the Children's Encyclopedia of American History?
The Children's Encyclopedia of American History is included in our Level D History program and reused in Level E History. If you purchased our Level D All-Subject Package or Reading with History Package, you do not need to purchase this book again.
What are the “Required Resources” and why are they required?
The Required Resources includes a big binder with 36 week tabs for your Instructor’s Guides, The Timeline Book, a reusable Markable Map, and a set of wet-erase markers. These resources will be reused in almost every level of our History program and can be shared by multiple students. You will be given the option to purchase these items every time you buy an All-Subject Package, but you only need to buy it once.
The decision to homeschool our daughter, Alexa, was an easy one. Choosing a curriculum that worked well with her goals and schedule was a little more difficult.
