Instructor’s Guides
Includes separate Parent & Student Guides with a 36-Week, 4-Day schedule designed to save one day a week for co-ops, music lessons, sports, field trips or other extra-curricular activities. The Parent Guide and Student Guide are almost identical but the Parent Guide includes answers to the discussion questions, map activities and helpful notes about some content and grading.
With all the lesson plans and organization done for you, you can spend your time enjoying your students and learning with them. Let the discussion questions and great books lead to meaningful conversations about family, politics, history and character. Open your guide each day to see what to read and discuss.
Virtual
An optional online platform that enables students to access their reading schedules, take assessments, and receive instant auto-grading results. Parents can track and review student work, customize assessments, and message students directly from a computer or mobile device. A Virtual course includes 1 student + 1 parent/teacher account.
If purchased in April, May or June of this year, access to Virtual can start as early as July 1st. You will be able to start on the date of your choice up to 6 months of purchase date. Virtual courses MUST be started within 6 months of purchase. You will have 12 months from the time of your start date to complete the course.
History & Geography │ The History of Science
We utilize Joy Hakim’s The Story of Science as the spine to our program. The Story of Science is a three book series centered on three of the world’s most influential scientists: Aristotle, Newton and Einstein. Each book provides the historical perspective and the scientific explanation necessary for students to comprehend how each scientist contributed to our current understanding of matter, mechanics, mathematics and the universe.
We complement Hakim’s 3 book series with a collection of historical literature to further the understanding of the environments and events surrounding the scientific eras. A few of the books include:
-
- String, Straight-Edge & Shadow, an illustrative look at the discovery of geometry
- Archimedes and the Door of Science, an in-depth background of Archimedes influence and his incredible inventions
- Bomb recounts the race between Germany and the United States to develop the most powerful weapon the world has ever known
Language Arts & Classic Literature
This is the first year in which BookShark students do not engage in Read Alouds with their parents as well as the first year (since Level D) that Language Arts and Literature does not tie to the History. With the highly academic nature of the History program, we chose to surround it with classical literature and daily poetry reading.
The Language Arts program focuses on creative expression and vocabulary development. We provide instruction on how to compose various writing assignments, namely: narrative, argumentative, expository, persuasive and descriptive. We also require a 4 week research project and various reporting assignments (similar to a periodical). Each writing assignment concludes with a series of evaluation questions for the parent to analyze the quality of the student’s finished work.
Science | Physics, Electromagnetism, and Waves
Consists of a Student Lab Book and Parent Guide, as well as a Science Supplies Kit which provides all hard-to-find materials for the student's science labs.
The Student Lab Book and Parent Guide includes the following resources for teaching Science J: Science lesson reviewing concepts learned in the readings in the History of Science curriculum; complete, photographed instructions for lab experiments that correlate to the science concept of the week; lab book pages for the student to record their results; parent guide includes tips for each lab and a full answer key.
Student should understand basic algebra to complete some lab work in this program.
Math
The Math-U-See Algebra 1 Universal Set comes with this All-Subject Package. You may also choose from other math programs such as Saxon using the customize tab. To find out if your student is ready for Algebra 1 take the Algebra 1 Readiness Assessment.

Can I use this package with both of my children?
Yes, you can! Your students will be able to share most of the resources in the All-Subject Package, including Read-Alouds, Science, and History. They can also share the Timeline Book and Timeline Figures, but you will need duplicates of some of the worksheets. You may also need additional math resources. Please look at the “Consumables” tab to see a full list of the consumable materials in this package.
Please remember that Math is a skill-based subject. Even though your students are in the same age range, they may not have the same skill levels. Use the assessments on our Resources page to help you pick the correct Math option for each of your children. Once you know the correct Math levels, customize the All-Subject Package to fit one of your student’s needs. Then, supplement the package with an additional Math program that fits your other students.
Not sure if this is the right fit? Please review the options below to find a package that will work for both of your children:
- Ages 11-13 | Level G All-Subject Package
- Ages 13-15 | Level H All-Subject Package
- Ages 12-16 | American History & Literature I
If there is more than a three-year age difference between your children, we recommend that you purchase a separate package for each student.
Can my students share the Science Supplies Kit and Student Lab Book?
If your students are willing to work together as lab partners, they can share the resources in the Science Supplies Kit J and Student Lab Book. But, a second set is recommended so that each student performs every experiment.
Which Math program/level will be best for my child?
Math, like reading, is a skill-based subject. It is important to pick a program and a level that fits your child’s learning style and ability. Please take a look at our Resources page for a comparison of our different math options. We also have placement tests to help you figure out the appropriate starting point for your child.
Can I purchase the package without Math?
Our All-Subject Packages are built to include everything you need for your school year: History, Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Math. We love our packages so much that we discount them 20% off the retail price. You can purchase the elements of the All-Subject package without purchasing math, but you will not receive the 20% package discount.
If you are certain none of our math options will work for you, please add the following products to your cart individually:
What are the “Required Resources” and why are they required?
The Required Resources include a big binder with 36-week tabs for your Instructor’s Guides, The Timeline Book, a reusable Markable Map, and a set of wet-erase markers. These resources will be reused in almost every level of our History program and can be shared by multiple students. You will be given the option to purchase these items every time you buy an All-Subject or Reading with History Package, but you only need to buy it once.

The decision to homeschool our daughter, Alexa, was an easy one. Choosing a curriculum that worked well with her goals and schedule was a little more difficult.
