Language Arts Assessment

Choosing the correct starting point for your child’s Language Arts program is essential for a successful homeschool journey. These Language Arts assessment tests are designed to help you confidently place your student in the appropriate BookShark level—especially if your child is preparing to use BookShark’s History Levels A through C, or if they’re joining an older sibling in a combined program such as Level D.

For students using Level D and above, the process is even easier. Simply select the Language Arts level that corresponds with your History level. Our curriculum is designed to integrate across subjects, making it streamlined and intuitive.

For Students using Level D and above simply use the Language Arts that matches your History Level.

Instructions

Parents, we encourage you to be part of the assessment process. You’re welcome to act as your child’s scribe, writing down their dictated responses so they can focus on comprehension and expression without being held back by handwriting or spelling challenges.

To begin, click on the appropriate grade-level assessment below. Each test includes 10 questions designed to evaluate your child’s reading comprehension, writing ability, and overall readiness. If your student answers 8 out of 10 questions correctly, move on to the next level’s assessment. If they answer fewer than 8 questions correctly, the current level is likely the best fit for your child’s needs. These homeschool Language Arts placement tests help ensure your child starts at just the right level—not too easy, not too challenging—so they stay engaged, confident, and progressing.
