Includes a 36-Week, 4-Day schedule designed to save one day a week for co-ops, music lessons, sports, field trips or other extra-curricular activities. Includes colorful map answer keys, discussion questions and answers as well as background notes to help you get the most from the time you spend with your child.
History & Geography │ Eastern Hemisphere
Travel to North Africa, the Middle East and Asia! Excitement and adventure await your children in the mysterious Eastern Hemisphere.
The history centerpiece is Journey to the Eastern Hemisphere, a book (new for 2016!) that combines articles and photos about various countries and regions: China, Korea, Japan, Russia, Southeast Asia, Vietnam, India, the Middle East, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, New Zealand, Australia, and Antarctica.
Share adventures of life overseas with your children with 16 Read-Alouds. See cultures with new eyes as you walk with a young Tibetan girl from her homeland all the way to Calcutta. Shuffle behind Marjan, a disabled Persian girl, as she risks her life to collect stories for the Sultan's wife, who must tell him a new tale every night--or be killed.
Your children will get more glimpses into life in the Eastern Hemisphere through their Readers this year. They'll meet characters who inspire courage, curiosity, strength and lots of fun!
After you meet one such character in Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, your children will use the included paper to make their own authentic Japanese origami.
This complete Language Arts program helps your child stretch his or her imagination and refine communication skills through a wide variety of writing assignments, including plenty of creative writing.
The following OPTIONAL supplements Wordly Wise 3000, Book 5 & Teacher's Key and Keys to Good Language 5 are scheduled in the guide for your convenience but not required. (Not included in the Full-Grade package but can be added using the Customize Tab).
Spelling You See takes the approach that students spell correctly when words are imprinted on the visual memory. The design of the program allows students to develop spelling skills naturally, at their own pace, with the direction and encouragement of the instructor.
See the General Spelling Readiness Guidelines for more information on placing your student in the correct level.
Science │ Health and Human Anatomy
Students discover the wonders of the human body in Science 5, including anatomy, health and nutrition, diseases, survival skills, and a unit on gender differences and reproduction. The Blood & Guts book provides amusing and amazing hands-on experiments to teach about the body.
The OPTIONAL supplement Lyrical Life Science, Volume 3 - The Human Body is scheduled in the guide for your convenience but is not required. (Not included in the Full-Grade package but can be added using the Customize Tab).
The Math-U-See Epsilon Universal Set comes with this full-grade package. You may also choose from other math programs such as Teaching Textbooks, Saxon, Singapore using the customize tab. To find out if your student is ready for Epsilon take the Epsilon Readiness Assessment.

Is BookShark a History or a Reading program?
BookShark is both! We are a literature based program that teaches History through reading and listening. At Level K-2, the focus of our program is on developing and strengthening reading ability. This is why we offer multiple Reader levels for the early packages. Beginning in Level 3, however, the focus shifts from strengthening reading ability to building reading comprehension. From Level 3 up, we integrate the Reading, Read-Alouds, and Language Arts assignments with the History readings. Instead of learning to read, your children will be reading to learn!
Do the Readers integrate with the History reading?
Yes, they do! For Level 3 and up, all of our Readers were chosen because of how well they represent the topics and times you'll be studying in History readings. The Readers in this package also integrate with Language Arts assignments. This approach gives your student an opportunity to soak up subject matter in three different ways: by listening, by writing, and (of course) by reading!
Can I use this package for both of my children?
Yes, you can use the Full Grade package with two or more students!
If your children are within three years of age, we recommend that you put them in the same BookShark Full-Grade Package. Your children will be able to share most of the resources in the Full Grade package, including Read-Alouds, Science, and History books. They can also share the Timeline Book and Timeline Figures, but you will need duplicates of some of the worksheets. You may also need additional Math resources. Please look at the “Consumables” tab to see a full list of the consumable materials in this package.
Please remember that Reading & Language Arts and Math are skill based subjects. Even though your students are in the same age range, they may not have the same skill levels. Use the assessments on our Resources page to help you pick the correct Reading and Math option for each of your children.
Once you know the correct Reader and Math levels, customize the Full Grade package to fit one of your student’s needs. Then, supplement the package with an additional Reading & Language Arts and a Math program that fits your other students.
Not sure if this is the right fit? Please review the options below to find a package that will work for both of your children:
- Ages 8-11 | Level 3 Full Grade Package
- Ages 9-12 | Level 4 Full Grade Package
- Ages 11-13 | Level 6 Full Grade Package
- Ages 12-14 | Level 7 Full Grade Package
If there is more than a three year age difference between your children, we recommend that you purchase a separate package for each student. Our Level K Full Grade Package (for ages 5-7) is a good pairing with our Level 5 package as it provides an introduction World Cultures.
Which Math program/level will be best for my child?
Math, like reading, is a skill-based subject. It is important to pick a program and a level that fits with your child’s learning style and ability. Please take a look at our Resources page for a comparison of our different math options. We also have placement tests to help you figure out the appropriate starting point for your child.
Can I purchase the package without Math?
Our Full-Grade Packages are built to include everything you need for your school year: History, Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Math. We love our packages so much that we discount them 20% off retail price. You can purchase the elements of the Full Grade package without purchasing math, but you will not receive our 20% off package discount.
If you are certain none of our math options will work for you, please add the following products to your cart individually:
Do you have Handwriting for Level 5?
Handwriting is not included in our Level 5 Full Grade Package, but we do have a Handwriting package for Level 5! please follow this link to add Handwriting Without Tears: Can-Do Cursive to your cart.
What are the “Required Resources” and why are they required?
The Required Resources includes a big binder with 36 week tabs for your Instructor’s Guides, The Timeline Book, a reusable Markable Map, and a set of wet-erase markers. These resources will be reused in almost every level of our History program and can be shared by multiple students. You will be given the option to purchase these items every time you buy a Full Grade package, but you only need to buy it once.
